How Can a Single Mainboard Drive Display Screens of Various Sizes?

Many clients face a very real challenge: they offer product lines comprising numerous models with largely identical functionality—the only difference being the screen size. If every change in screen size required the complete redevelopment of a dedicated mainboard, the resulting increases in development costs, debugging time, certification hurdles, and inventory pressure would be substantial. Consequently, an increasing number of clients are now focusing on a specific objective: is it possible to utilize a single mainboard that is simultaneously compatible with display screens of different sizes?
The answer, in fact, is yes.

We offer a specialized solution centered on "TFT displays with standardized interfaces." This solution unifies various screen sizes—including 4.3-inch, 5-inch, 7-inch, 8-inch, and 10.1-inch models—under a single, standardized RGB 50-pin interface. This means that as long as a client designs their mainboard to accommodate the RGB 50-pin standard, they can subsequently switch between different screen sizes as their product requirements evolve, without the need to redesign the mainboard itself.

For instance, a client might designate a 10.1-inch screen for their high-end product variant, a 5-inch screen for the standard version, and a 4.3-inch screen for the portable model—yet all three can operate using the exact same mainboard. This approach not only accelerates the initial development process but also significantly simplifies subsequent maintenance, software adaptation, and supply chain management.

The true complexity, after all, lies not in the display panel itself, but in the comprehensive system supporting it. Any alteration to the mainboard necessitates a cascade of adjustments across numerous components—including software drivers, EMC debugging, mechanical design, cabling, certification testing, and more. By standardizing the interface, a vast array of resources can be directly reused.

Of course, this process involves more than simply making the physical connectors identical. Since display panels of different sizes inherently possess widely varying technical parameters—for example, some utilize IPS technology while others use TN; resolutions also differ (e.g., 4.3-inch IPS at 480×272, 5-inch and 7-inch at 800×480, 8-inch at 800×600, and 10.1-inch IPS at 1024×600)—we undertake the necessary integration work to unify them under the RGB 50-pin interface, thereby providing clients with greater flexibility during development. Many clients even opt to conduct their initial development and validation using a smaller screen size; later, when upgrading the product, they can directly switch to a larger screen without having to redesign the mainboard—a capability that offers tremendous benefits in terms of shortening the overall project lifecycle. In fact, industries such as industrial equipment, medical devices, and smart terminals are increasingly prioritizing "interface standardization." This is because a truly mature solution goes beyond merely powering up; it must also remain stable, maintainable, and scalable over the long term.
