Distinction: Bedside Monitor Main Display vs Nursing Station Central Large Display

Core Reminder: Patient monitors are Class II medical devices, NOT ordinary industrial displays. The LCD/touch module is a critical component and must be included in the technical documentation for device registration. Changing the screen supplier constitutes a registration variation, which involves a long lead time. Most customers develop their own ARM mainboards and purchase open-frame touch modules instead of finished panel PCs. All-in-one panel PCs are only occasionally adopted for central monitoring workstations.

Bedside Monitor Main Unit (Main Focus, High-Volume Segment)

• 7” (portable / transport monitors, ambulances)

• 8”, 10.1”, 12.1” (Bestsellers! 1024×768 XGA, 4:3 aspect ratio is the industry classic)

• 4:3 is preferred for clean layout of ECG waveforms, ST-segment data and multi-parameter readings; 16:9 is gradually adopted in new-generation models

Central Monitoring Station (Large-Screen Segment: 15.6 / 18.5 / 21.5” FHD)

Used by nursing staff at back-end stations to view multiple patients’ waveforms, alarms and trend reports simultaneously. Sizes above 15.6” apply only to this scenario.

2. Optical Requirements (Accurate ECG Waveform Rendering is Critical)

• General wards: 350–500 cd/m²

• ICU, operating rooms, windowsides with strong ambient light: 600–800 cd/m²

• Ambulance transport (outdoor strong sunlight): ≥1000 cd/m², sunlight readable

2. Panel: Mandatory IPS wide viewing angle (178°/178°)
Doctors, nurses and patients view waveforms from various angles. Color shift or blurry ECG traces are unacceptable; TN panels are generally rejected.

3. Contrast Ratio: ≥800:1; ≥1000:1 recommended for clear differentiation between waveforms and background.

4. Surface Treatment: AG anti-glare + AF anti-fingerprint / anti-corrosion coating. Many customers require OCA optical bonding to reduce reflection, prevent condensation and improve vibration resistance.

5. Color Depth: 8-bit with stable color performance. Non-diagnostic monitoring screens do NOT require DICOM (DICOM is mandatory only for medical imaging diagnostic displays).

6. Backlight MTBF: ≥50,000 hours for 24/7 continuous operation. No flicker allowed. PWM dimming may interfere with ECG acquisition; DC dimming backlight is strongly preferred.

3. Operating Temperature & Humidity

• Standard range: 0℃ ~ +60℃ (indoor ward environment)

• Ambulance / pre-hospital emergency version: -20℃ ~ +70℃ wide temperature

• Humidity: 5～95% RH, non-condensing. Optical bonding helps mitigate condensation.
