BOE expects to launch a new generation of COG products with a pitch of P0.9 in 2025!

On August 11th, BOE MLED learned that at the DIC 2025 Fourth Innovative Display "Industry Advancement" Seminar, Gao Bo, Director of BOE MLED's Direct Display COG Development Department, delivered a keynote speech titled "Overview of Direct Display COG Technology Trends," which garnered widespread attention in the industry.

In his speech, Gao Bo explained that MLED technology types are primarily categorized into traditional SMD surface-mount packaging technology, COB chip-on-board packaging technology, and COG glass substrate technology. From the perspective of industry development trends and technological evolution, the continuous maturity of technology has led to a gradual evolution from traditional SMD technology to COB/COG technology.

COG technology offers significant advantages over traditional direct display products. Regarding extreme blacks, COG utilizes an advanced BM blackening process, achieving a higher black ratio than traditional LED screens, resulting in a darker overall screen appearance and improved contrast. This allows for deeper blacks when watching movies and videos, making highlights brighter and shadows darker, providing users with an immersive visual experience. In terms of thinness and lightness, the glass substrate containing LEDs using COG technology is only 0.6mm thick, and with the addition of a reinforced backplane, it reaches a mere 5mm, truly achieving a thin profile. This not only makes display products more refined and aesthetically pleasing, but also effectively reduces weight, making installation and use easier.

Concurrently, with the continuous advancement of COG technology, direct display COG modules are gradually evolving from 8.9 inches to 13-17 inches. In the future, the continued marketization of direct display COG and the upgrade of supporting equipment sizes will inevitably drive the development of COG display splicing modules to larger sizes. Regarding products, BOE plans to launch a new generation of COG products with a P0.9 pitch this year. Furthermore, with the continuous advancement of COG technology, product pitch miniaturization will continue, and products with P0.4-P0.1 are expected to be released, bringing more surprises to the display industry.
