Demand strengthened, and TV panel prices stopped falling in August

On August 20th, TrendForce released the latest panel prices for August. Specifically, TV panel prices stopped falling, while monitor and laptop panel prices remained stable.

TV Panels
Fan Boyue, Vice President of Research at TrendForce, stated that despite significant fluctuations in the overall market since entering the third quarter, most TV brands still hope to achieve their full-year targets through year-end promotions. As a result, the current demand for TV panels has significantly increased compared to the second quarter, especially for small-size TV panels. With expected low supply and relatively low prices, the increased demand has been most pronounced. As demand strengthens, panel manufacturers are also signaling a stabilization in prices, hoping to stabilize prices as demand improves. Therefore, based on current August TV panel price trends, it is estimated that panels from 32-inch to 75-inch sizes will remain flat.

Monitor Panels
TrendForce Vice President of Research, Boyce Fan, noted that demand for monitor panels declined slightly by 4.7% quarter-over-quarter in the third quarter compared to the second quarter. This trend may lead to renewed price negotiations between buyers and sellers.

However, mainstream monitor panels are currently mostly operating at a loss, leading most panel manufacturers to maintain a flat price stance and even reduce supply. Furthermore, a renewed surge in demand for TV panels after the third quarter has given panel manufacturers more room to maneuver, leading most brands to refrain from strongly demanding price reductions. Based on current monitor panel price trends in August, mainstream sizes, including open-cell panels and panel modules, are expected to remain flat.

Laptop Panels
Demand for laptop panels remained strong in the third quarter. Despite the uncertainty surrounding the implementation of semiconductor-related tariffs, brand customers are still willing to purchase panels according to their established purchasing needs. Laptop panel demand is expected to increase slightly by 1.8% quarter-over-quarter in the third quarter. However, panel manufacturers, considering the ongoing competition for customer orders, are still hesitant to raise prices rashly, and even continue to use under-the-table discounts to stabilize customer relationships. Therefore, the current price trend of laptop panels in August is still showing an overall flat trend.
