BOE's 8.6-generation OLED production is scheduled to commence in May next year.
According to industry insiders, BOE plans to start mass production of OLED display screens for laptops from May next year on its 8.6-generation production line. The screen size will be 14 inches, and it will be promoted for use in laptops from Acer and Asus.
It is reported that in addition to IT equipment, BOE has also designed the 8.6-generation OLED as a universal device capable of producing OLED panels for smartphones. The specific customers have not yet been determined. It is said that BOE is in talks with several smartphone manufacturers such as Apple and OPPO regarding OLED supply matters.
Starting from 2024, BOE will invest in and build an 8.6-generation OLED project in Chengdu High-tech Zone, Sichuan Province. Currently, BOE is accelerating the mass production of this project. The core equipment for the first phase has been moved in ahead of schedule. It is reported that the equipment for the second phase has also been ordered. Previously, BOE expected to start the first light-up this month (December).
An industry insider said: "The production schedule for the project will be determined based on the release timing of the customer's products. If BOE achieves mass production first and gains competitiveness, it will have significant symbolic importance and cannot be ignored."
